CPD Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Duration: 1 hour
This video will look at the relationship between the law, ethics and professionalism for the dental team members.
Professionals sometimes wonder why and how their behaviour and conduct in their own personal private life might have an impact upon their professional status. These links will be explored and discussed. Ethical behaviour will be discussed in relation to honesty, morality and decency. Patient confidentiality will be discussed especially in the context of the growing use of social media.
Professional regulation has changed significantly in the last ten years. The background to these changes will be reviewed and the impact of the changed approach for individual registrants will be discussed. There will be a discussion on the GDC and how the GDC investigates a complaint.
Whistleblowing is always a contentious issue. Some pointers are offered in the event that a registrant feels that they have no alternative but to raise concerns about a colleague’s conduct or health.
Claims in negligence will be discussed including the importance of effective communication and documentation of the consent process. This video will be illustrated with some examples of cases that have given rise to claims.
This Video will give a review of law and ethics sufficient to satisfy GDC CPD requirement for one hour of study in this area.
By the end of the session the viewer will be able to describe:
