The aim of this video is to provide a comprehensive insight into radiation dose and the factors affecting doses in dentistry. It will also cover the risks of ionising radiation and the principles of radiation protection with emphasis on quality assurance and the statutory requirements. The use of radiography selection criteria guidelines is discussed.
Dr Jimmy Makdissi DDS MMedSc FDSRCS(Eng) DDRRCR
Jimmy joined Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in November 2004. He qualified in 1993, completed a postgraduate diploma in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Damascus in 1995 and then a Master of Medical Sciences in Oral Surgery from Queen’s University of Belfast. He obtained his fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1999 and completed his higher training in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology at Guy’s Hospital in London. He obtained the Diploma of Dental Radiology from the Royal College of Radiologists in 2004. Jimmy delivers didactic and clinical teaching to dental students, senior house officers and medical and dental Specialist Registrars. He also teaches on the fellowship and membership programmes at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He sat on the education committee of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. He has spoken at a number of national and international conferences.
