All property professionals are doing their best to cope with the stagnation and the material uncertainty in the UK property market caused by the coronavirus crisis. But, once the crisis has passed (whenever that might be) what will be the long term implications for the use of property in the economy? Will home working become the norm releasing a large stock of offices from the market? Has the virus escalated the reshaping of the high street? Will Shopping Centres become the empty cathedrals of our generation? Has the boom in home delivery hit a tipping point increasing the need for well-connected logistic and distribution hubs? Will face to face co-working move online completely?
Learning Objectives/Points of Debate
- An understanding of the possible impact of Covid-19 on different property sectors; residential, retail, offices, logistics, industrial and leisure.
- Understanding the practical implications of the fallout of the virus on property leasing and management.
- Will Covid-19 derail the serviced office movement or push it to dominance?

Ben Strange MRICS is a Chartered Building Surveyor specialising in dilapidations, project management and property disputes.
Ben is a Director of Mobius Building Consultancy, an independent practice advising on commercial property across the UK and Ireland.
He is a regular conference speaker and contributor to industry publications on the matter of MEES, and brings to his clients truly unique opportunities arising from his specialist knowledge of the Regulations.

Nick French is a recognised expert in the area of property valuation and appraisal. Previously, he has worked as a professor at various universities in the UK, Europe and the USA teaching extensively in the areas of valuation, investment and corporate real estate on BSc, MSc and MBA programmes.
In 2018, Nick set up Real Estate Valuation Theurgy, a vehicle that allows him to continue writing papers, presenting conference papers and undertaking in-house training for the real estate profession at home and abroad. His research interests concentrate upon the interface of property legislation and regulation and its impact on value and valuation models. In recent years, he has won the RICS Prize for the Best Paper in Valuation and the Appraisal and the Appraisal Journal Prize for the Best Paper in Appraisal at European Real Estate Society Conferences. In 2018, he was awarded a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the International Real Estate Society.
Nick is the Editor of the Journal of Property Investment & Finance, the award winning academic international journal of the real estate industry. He also writes regularly for, the Journal of Property Investment & Finance, the Property Chronicle, the European Journal of Real Estate Research, the Journal of Corporate Real Estate and other professional and academic journals.
He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and has regularly served on the various committees such as the UK Valuation Board and the Corporate Real Estate Strategy Group. He was also a member of the Professional Board of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC).
Nick started 2020 by being featured on Radio 2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon when he chose his ‘The Non – stop Golden Oldies’ (20th January 2020). Nick has also had his first article on comic collecting accepted for publication in the high street magazine, Comic Scene, to be published in March 2020.
